Hosts Operating Systems

Top  Previous  Next

On your PC, your operating system is Microsoft Windows. Your host computer will always have an Operating System as well. It will most likely be either a Microsoft Windows Server or Linux (UNIX).

Linux and Windows servers can host both a database web site, but each is a little different. Your visitors will never know what web server is used to serve your pages.  If you think about it, when you are surfing the web, you are happily unaware of whether your pages are being served by a Windows or Linux server.  However as a web publisher, you need to be aware of the operating system that you are deploying your pages on.  Why?  Basically because you cannot "mix and match" technologies any way you wish.  If your host is Windows / ASP, then PHP may not run, likewise if you are hosting on Linux and PHP, you cannot use an access database.  There are many combinations, of compatible mixes, but an equal number that are incompatible.  This is not a limitation of DWQueryBuilder, it is a limitation of hosting platforms.

DWQueryBuilder can generate pages for both Linux and Windows Servers.
